How Old Does Microsoft Think CoryxKenshin Is?
Now and then, DeVante will share a video or an Instagram post to celebrate his birthday.
But on May 19, 2015, things were a bit different. In a video titled “I AM NOT 36!!!,” Cory tried running pictures of himself on Microsoft’s age-guessing website.
The results were shocking. The guessing tool believed DeVante was 30+. The tool even threw a “48” at DeVante at one point.
Mind you, he was 22 at the time.
At first, he thought the facial hair just made him look older. But then he did a few test runs with selfies from his teen years (yes, he did dig into MySpace for those pictures!). Yet, he still got way too high estimates.

That’s ironic when you consider how some of CoryxKenshin’s fans keep saying he has a babyface. It looks like Microsoft’s guesser has a mind of its own.
CoryxKenshin’s YouTube Timeline and Hiatuses
Now that I’ve covered all the basics about his age, I’d like to discuss CoryxKenshin’s YouTube timeline.
From Vlogging to Gaming
DeVante created his YouTube Channel in 2009 when he was just a teenager.
Initially, the channel was mainly for vlogging and comedy skits. His first upload was titled “Girls in particular.” But even back then, it was clear he was into video games.
Soon enough, he was uploading gaming videos with much better production and editing.
In 2015, DeVante got his silver YouTube play button, an award for creators who hit the 100K subscriber milestone.
Hiatuses and Personal Insights
The YouTuber is also known for taking a lot of hiatuses. I’m talking 10+ hiatuses.
The gap most fans remember is the 2016 hiatus when he went offline for two months—no uploads and not a word on social media. He did get back and post semi-regularly for a while, sharing gaming videos and skits and even opening up about his personal life.
In fact, in 2017, he talked about having ectodermal dysplasia, a rare genetic condition that affects teeth and body hair. He dreaded discussing this topic but did it anyway to encourage his fans to overcome their insecurities. That’s quite admirable if you ask me!
DeVante took a few more breaks in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The 2020 hiatus got so bad that rumors surfaced online that CoryxKenshin was dead. Thankfully, they were just rumors.
That said, 2020 was particularly rough on Cory—so much so that he called it “chaos” and the “worst year” of his life.
Climbing up the Ranks
Things start taking a turn for the better in 2021. CoryxKenshin was the nation’s fourth top YouTube creator, behind Mr Beast, Dhar Mann, and SSSniperWolf.
He even made it to the top trending videos that year with his “Friday Night Funkin’” rap-style video.
Tracking CoryxKenshin’s YouTube Subscriber Count
CoryxKenshin has 18+ million subscribers so far!
But it took him ages to get there. Although he created the channel in 2009, it didn’t start blowing up until 2015 (when Cory was around 23).
From 2016 to 2019, his subscriber list grew by about a million annually. Then, things blew up in 2020. Yes, despite the long hiatus and the rough year!
Year | Subscribers |
2014 | 30K |
2015 | 250K |
2016 | 1 Million |
2017 | 2 Million |
2018 | 3 Million |
2019 | 4 Million |
2020 | 8 Million |
2021 | 12 Million |
2022 | 15 Million |
It’s worth noting that, at one point, DeVant announced he’d be retiring from YouTube when he hits the 10-million subscriber milestone (diamond play button award). He’s still around, though, trying to make his fans’ day a little bit better with his gaming videos and skits!
Final Thoughts
Despite taking frequent breaks, 31-year-old Cory DeVante found lots of success as a YouTuber (and Swedish Fish lover).
